I’ve got a couple bits of news:

William Cardini Digital Prints Composite
If there’s an artwork or single comics page that you’d like to see me offer as a digital print, let me know.

I love the increasingly abstract and artificial texture of Cardini’s series…. It’s interesting to see a book done in the “mark-making” school of comics drawn entirely on a computer, as it heightens reader tension and makes the contents all the more alien in its coldness.

  • Here’s a somewhat abstract Vortex #3 preview page:

This is Page 13. Vortex #3 is also available in my online store, in a combo pack or by itself.

Vortex #3 Release Recap

Thanks to everyone who came by the Vortex #3 book release at Domy Books this past Wednesday, I had a good time!

Vortex 3 release party at Domy

When Vortex #2 came out, I had a joint release party / reading with Melinda Tracy Boyce (she was putting out The Melinderly #1). We projected panels from our comics and performed them to an audience. I thought it was fun, but since then, I’ve been to signings here in Austin where the cartoonists just set up a table and personalized books for everyone who came up. I like interacting with people individually more so I thought I’d give it a shot (I also didn’t have enough new, non-Vortex comics to fill another reading). I dug it but I might switch things up again next time.

This Saturday, November 10th, Josh Burggraf and I will be tabling at the Brooklyn Comics and Graphics Festival, representing the Gold County Paper Mill. We’ll be at Table U32:

The GCPM's table assignment at BCGF
BCGF is from 12-7pm at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 275 North 8th Street, Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

I’m debuting Vortex #3:

Vortex #3 continues the adventures of the Miizzzard on the planet of the shape-shifting aliens who call themselves the Vortex.

Vortex #3 center spread
In Vortex #2, the Miizzz entered the communal dreamscape of the ultra-violent Vortex to try and free their minds from outside control. Now the Miizzz must battle through layer after layer of berserk nightmares.

Josh is doing a simultaneous release of #2 and #3 of the SF anthology that he edits, Future Shock:

Future Shock #2 and #3
Future Shock #2 contributor list: Max Bode, Danica Dora, Josh Bayer, Pat Aulisio, Ryan Dirks, Steve Fuentes, Victor Kerlow, and Josh. Future Shock #3 contributor list: Alex Degen, Sungyoon Choi, Det Roc Boi, Vincent Giard, Anuj Shrestha, Victor, Josh, and me.

Here’s a shot of two pages from my six-page contribution to FS#3:

Catch Up #3 Pre-Sale and Release Party

Hey y’all, sorry about the silence this week. I’ve been deep in it working to finish up Vortex #3 so that it’ll be ready to debut at Josh and I’s GCPM table at BCGF.

Today though I’m excited to announce that Catch Up #3 is available! Catch Up is a literature and comics journal that the Gold County Paper Mill puts out. I’m a comics editor alongside Josh Burggraf and PB Kain. We’ve got a ton of great folks in #3, you can see a full list and order a copy on our site.

If you’re in Louisville, there’s a release party tonight at 7pm. Here’s a link to the Facebook event. There’ll be poetry readings, an older poetry/comics collaboration I did with Jak Cardini called Impossible Objects, and a few copies of Vortex #1 and #2 if USPS delivers it on time.

Vortex #3 is Drawn

I finished drawing Vortex #3 this past week! It’s not quite done yet (I’ve still got post-production to do – patterns, tweaking, and corrections) but I feel good about getting this far. Here’s a preview of a double-page spread:

Second Vortex 3 Double-Page Spread

I’ve drawn 96 pages of Vortex so far. I think I can wrap the whole thing up in a fourth issue but there may be a fifth one also. But most likely no more than that! I’ll have details about Vortex #3’s con debut and release party soon.

Making Progress on Vortex #3

Filed under: Print Comics — Tags: — William Cardini @ 11:37 pm

I’m in a deep groove of working on Vortex #3 right now.

Here’s a quick preview, cropped from a page I just finished drawing but haven’t added patterns to yet:

My goal is to have Vortex #3 ready for BCGF (I’m on the waiting list, so I’ll be there either as an exhibitor or attendee).

Avant Geek at the Phoenix Trade Depot

Hey y’all, I’m selling copies of Vortex #1 and Vortex #2 at the Avant Geek art show at the Phoenix Trade Depot here in Austin.

The show opens this Saturday, here are the deetz:

P.S. Thickness #3 (and Sean T Collins and I’s contribution in particular) is mentioned on Episode 4 of the Comic Books are Burning in Hell podcast (audio is NSFW). Jog name drops my old, never completed comics series Hyperbox. You can read some of HB on my Flickrstream.

P.P.S. Did y’all know that I have a personal tumblr where I post drawings and that Josh Burggraf and I run a Gold County Paper Mill tumblr?
