Thanks Y’all!

Wow, I’m so happy that the Sparkplug Books Kickstarter was funded with a little extra to pay the videographer and t-shirt designer and get Yumi Sakugawa’s mini printed. Thanks so much for all your support!!! We couldn’t have done it without y’all’s likes, shares, faves, boops, retweets, and most of all, pledges.

I’m getting emotional preparing Vortex for the printer. I’ve been tinkering with it off and on since June 2011. It feels bittersweet to close the files for the final time and move the project to my archive folder…

Drawing comics in my studio is such a solitary activity, I can forget that there are so many of y’all out there reading and enjoying <3<3<3 Your support means so much to me, thanks again!

Preorder a Vortex Collection

Yesterday Sparkplug Books launched a Kickstarter campaign for their fall books: Reich #12 and Vortex.

I’m super stoked about this! Vortex will collect all four mini comics in a definitive edition with a cover by my partner Glade Hensel:

More preview images on my Tumblr. I’ll continue to post previews here and there throughout the campaign.

I started Vortex, my first graphic novel, on June 4th, 2011 and I’m looking forward to holding a copy in my pixel-stained hands. This summer I’ve poured over every page, fixing mistakes, editing some text, messing with the patterns, and redrawing pages. I’m really proud of the final book and, if you like psychedelic sf, I think you’ll dig it! Please support this campaign with a share or a preorder. I’d really appreciate it!

Vortex #2 Sold Out; One Vortex #1-4 Combo Pack Left

I realized yesterday that I only have one copy of Vortex #2 left in my personal inventory. So I’m not selling any more individual copies of Vortex #2 and I only have one Vortex #1-4 combo pack left. The combo pack is four dollars cheaper than ordering each issue individually. You can order it in my store.

Vortex #2 is still available through other stores and distros: Farewell Books in Austin, Birdcage Bottom Books, Quimby’s, Sparkplug, Telegraph Gallery, Wow Cool, and some other places I’m probably forgetting (sorry I’m sleep deprived).

I’ve added a Vortex #1-4 combo pack to my store. $20 plus shipping for the complete psychedelic adventure: 128 pages of sf madness, melting forms, digital lines, and thick textures. Here are some photos my wife, Glade Hensel, took of the issues:

Vortex #4 Preorder

Filed under: Print Comics — Tags: , — William Cardini @ 9:30 am

I sent Vortex #4 to the printer on Wednesday so I’ve put it up for preorder in my store. Here’s a preview:

The preorder price is a dollar off until I get the books in early August. At that point I’ll start shipping out preorders and raise the price to the same as the other issues.

Future Shock #4 and Vortex #1-3 at Farewell Books and CAKE; Vortex #4 Progress Update

I’ve dropped copies of Future Shock #4 and Vortex #1-3 off at Farewell Books here in Austin, located in Domy’s old space.

If you’re going to CAKE this weekend in Chicago, Kevin Czap will also have a few copies of the new Future Shock.

I’ve decided to draw the endpapers for this issue. My hand hurts.

I’ve been making good progress on Vortex. I’ve decided that #4 will be the final issue and I’ve pencilled all the way to the end. I’m over halfway done inking it also. My goal is to get the drawing done in June.

Vortex #4 Progress Screenshots

I’ve been getting back to work on Vortex #4. I’m finally at the point where finishing the whole story feels like a possibility. I’ve been working on this since the beginning of June in 2011.

Sometimes I use the grid in Manga Studio to sketch out hyperstructures:

Hyperbroadcasts: Less Posting, TCAF, Future Shock #4

Filed under: Print Comics — Tags: , — William Cardini @ 11:46 pm

Hey y’all! I’ve gotten a bit behind in blogging. I’m going to hibernate for a while to get some serious work done. I’ll resurface when I have something substantial. Here’s a progress shot from Vortex #4, which, despite my 2013 new year’s resolution, I’ve only finished five pages of:

The next time you’ll see me is TCAF 2013. Unfortunately Vortex #4 won’t be ready by then.

I’ll be tabling with Josh Burggraf, who’ll be debuting Future Shock #4.

I have a comic in there that I did in collaboration with Sean T Collins.
