It’s been a bit quiet around here, I’ve been busy. I drew comics for Smoke Signal #5 and Taffy Hips #8, of course I’ll let y’all know if my drawz make it in any of those fine publications. In the meantime, if you want to see some awwwrt, come by Big Medium (5305 Bolm Road #12, Austin, TX, 78721) this Saturday (6/5/10) from 8 to 11 pm to see Totally Wreck’s newest show, In Science, the Lion Sleeps with the Lamb.
This show is being put on by Big Medium in conjunction with MASS Gallery.
Josh Burggraf and I’s comic SHAMAN THUNDER was just reviewed over at Optical Sloth, here’s a snippet:
Sometimes it’s tough to say who would enjoy a particular mini and who wouldn’t, but this one is easy. If you’re enough of a dork to want to see a thoroughly ridiculous though oddly realistic fight between two shamans, it’s never been done better to my knowledge. If you consider yourself above such things, lucky for you there are many other mini comics in the world for you to choose from.

Another week no second post, and then I don’t post until Wednesday nite? Jeeeez I gotta get back in the GAME. Seriously though I’m going to try to post every Tuesday and Friday but sometimes I won’t make it, that’s just how it is, so I’m going to stop commenting on it.
This upcoming weekend is STAPLE! 2010. I’ll be exhibiting as part of the Gold County Paper Mill for the third year in a row!

We’re also going to be splitting our table space with the greeting cards and fabric art of my lovely (and talented!) fiancée Glade Whitworth. We hope to see y’all there, you can see our location of our table in the Monarch Event Center (where STAPLE! will be this Saturday, 3/6/10, from 11am to 7pm) here. We’ll be at table 51A, right by our buddies the Poopsheet Foundation and the League of Extremely Ordinary Gentlemen. Also, when you come, be sure to check out the STAPLE! Program Guide, in which I’ll have a two-page comic.
2009 was a great year here at the Hypercastle! Here’s some of the highlights:
2010 is already shaping up to be a great year, here’s hoping that it’ll blow 2009 out of the water! I’ve got several projects in work with some awesome and skilled creative people that I’ll be talking about as they manifest, a half-table for the G.C.P.M. and Glademade at STAPLE! 2010, and ideas for plenty of more comics that I’ll be submitting or self-publishing. I hope that everyone out there is having a great start to the new year, thanks for reading!
This upcoming Saturday the Gold County Paper Mill will be selling our wares at A Very Portland Christmas from 1pm to 8pm. This event is hosted by Nelligan Hall, which is at 2010 Portland Avenue, Louisville KY. I’m mailing some copies of my comics Froghead Hangover, TRANZ, Masks, and two color ATTACKS posters. In addition we’ll have a new GCPM Presents 2 DVD, compiled by Dr. Chuch; two of Jak Cardini’s poetry chapbooks, Jak Cardini Achieves the Narratological Singularity and There Is a Mars; and the collaborative comic/poetry Cardini Brothers joint Impossible Objects.

I got to play host to friends and talk to some new people, including our awesome neighbor Thor Harris and these guys Ben Goddard and Daniel. Ben and Daniel recently moved to Austin from the East Coast and have settled in to Glade and I’s old house. Ben sent me his website, he takes some pretty hilarious, well-constructed photos, including this one:

It’s a collaboration between me and Glade, it was a landscape that I didn’t use for the No More Worlds show that Glade added a bunch of awesome details to. Speaking of that No More Worlds show, I should have all of those drawings back next week, so come by if you want to check ‘em out!

As you can see in the upper left, I’ve got plenty of Gold County Paper Mill books left over from STAPLE! 2008, including Jak Cardini Achieves the Narratological Singularity, a book of J.C.’s poems, and Impossible Objects, a collaborative book between me and Jak.

My comic Herakles of Mars Attacks the Lion of Tharsis has been included in the latest issue of Taffy Hips, here’s the cover:
They’re having a release party this Friday at Desert Island Books in Brooklyn (where you can also pick up a copy of Hyperbox #3, as my buddy Lanneau just reminded me!). If you’re gonna be in the area, be sure to check it out!
The opening reception for Dispersal/Return will be this Friday (9/25) at the University of New Mexico Art Museum in Albuquerque from 5 to 7 pm. If any of y’all will be in the area, be sure to check it out – it’ll feature a special performance of “America’s Big” by my two good friends the Dirty Monke (AKA Jonathan Loth) and Li’l Bunny Krunk (AKA Gabriel Romero). You can also view my installation, Cryptostructure, alongside many other thought provoking works by Land Arts of the American West alumni.

I spent a lot of time working on different animations for that installation, and I’ve collected together some of the remnants into a new video, check it out:
The floating, segmented being with yellow eyes that you see in the beginning contains the longest bits of hand-drawn animation that I’ve done to date. This is definitely something that I plan to do more of, as I find the time in between comics and drawing projects.

Corinna Kirsch, co-curator of the show, has written an essay on the exhibit that mentions yours truly, here’s an excerpt:
Mark Hensel, another artist interested in the “reconventioning” of conventions, has uploaded old science fiction paperback covers onto his Flickr account. Documents of what was, the covers on these out-of-print editions–populated by scenes of a lonely cosmos or solitary wanderers–echo the oftentimes desolate landscapes in Hensel’s own comics and installations.
